Read Aloud Task Description

Read aloud means reading the content which appears on the screen within the given time. The task here will assess reading and speaking ability of the candidate. The prompt length can be up to 60 words. The time to answer the question may vary by item, and can also depend on the length of the text.

PREPARATION TIPS

1. READ IT BEFOREHAND

Before starting the task go through the content and scan the difficult words. Candidate will be given time to see the content so go through the given text to get a good hold over the written text.

2. BE NATURAL, CLEAR, CONFIDENT

In this task, the candidate is suggested to be natural and clear with pronunciation.Keeping calm and confident can act as a great weapon to win this war of words. Do not copy the accent just be natural and fluent. Speak at a natural pace not too fast not too slow. Focus on words and do not omit words especially where the words are plural.

3. WORK ON FLUENCY

Fluency is an important trait here. Be fluent and don’t stop. Say a big NO to irrelevant pauses.Keep one thing in mind, a pause of more than 3 seconds will close the microphone automatically. If you go wrong anywhere don’t try to correct yourself and just move on.

4. WORK ON INTONATION

The tone should not be monotonous in this task. Keep in mind the commas, semicolons and full stop. If the test taker ignores all these factors, then definitely intonation will suffer. So, be careful and keep your speech clear.

5. PRACTISE WELL

Start well with devoting your time to reading newspaper, magazines and know your weakness.Read and record yourself to test your own abilities as this will help you to know your error rates which will definitely boost up confidence. This method is best for self-evaluation.
